Rātana Pā is situated 20 kms south of Whanganui and is a place of significant history.
The name “Whare Kura” was given by Tahupotiki Wiremu Ratana at the opening of the kura in 1924. Over time, the kura went through a series of name changes to its former name Te Kura o Ratana. From 1 February 2021, our kura changed its name to Whare Kura Morehu ō Ratana. The name change coincided with a transition phase between 2019 - 2020.
In 2019 the kura became a Kura-ā-Iwi under the association of Ngā Kura-ā-Iwi o Aotearoa. The kura has since seen significant developments in aligning to the principles of NKAI while also developing our own Morehu Marautanga pertinent to the philosophy, beliefs, values and teachings of Tahupōtiki Wiremu Rātana - Māngai, particularly the spiritual and physical contexts, ‘Te Ture Wairua’ and ‘Te Ture Tangata.’
